Houdini: A Behind the Scenes Talk

The past few years has seen the studio working on some our most creative projects to date, which means that we’ve been pretty busy. In turn, that means we almost always forget to shout about what we’ve been up to.

Our Technical Director, David Deacon, delivered an insightful talk for the Houdini Characters and Crowds FX industry event in London, where many artists gathered for a range of Character FX and Crowds Production Talks.. Character FX work from companies including Axis Studios, Framestore, The Mill and NineteenTwenty all presented. Some of the recordings are available here and are well worth a watch.

It was a great opportunity for us to share a behind the scenes in-depth look at the TV spot ‘Mountain Men: Nature’s Thread’ we produced for the History Channel. David’s presentation covers our workflows and technical challenges involved in the creation of the piece.

Watch the full presentation below to find out how we tackled it using Houdini.

The 30 second animated spot was set in a world made entirely of natural fibres, including characters which are connected to and woven from their environment. We delivered this project in a tight four week production timeline which kept us on our toes!
